Drum Making

There really is nothing like creating something as wonderful as a hand made drum. We offer this opportunity as a full day course usually with us here in Polperro. All we need to know before the day is what you want to make your drum from and what you will predominantly use it for. The skins we use are all from the UK and carefully selected by the tannery in Scotland, horse, red deer and fallow deer skins all have their own unique properties and sounds when matched with a circular ash or 13 sided pine hoop. The handle designs are really very personal too but that can be decided on the day. The cost for the day is kept to a minimum and usually runs at about £50 over the cost of the drum, this is worked out based on the skin and size of drum and what was paid for the materials in the first place rather than a flat fee so please get in touch, a guide price would be in the region of £185 for a 14" red deer drum including all materials for the drum and beater, we even throw in a light lunch.
